What is Intrauterine insemination?

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization.

In Japan, IUI has been performed for over 60 years.

The goal of IUI is to increase the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes and subsequently increase the chance of fertilization.

IUI provides the sperm an advantage by giving it a head start, but still requires a sperm to reach and fertilize the egg on its own.

In Japan, the term AIH (artificial insemination with husband’s semen) is more commonly used.

Who benefits from IUI??

The IUI is an effective treatment for some causes of infertility in women under age 41

IUI might not be for you if there is any of the following,

Tubal blockage or severe tubal damage
Ovarian failure (menopause)
Severe male factor infertility
Severe endometriosis

How does IUI work?

iui1- It is performed on the timing of ovulation

2- Sperm sample is collected

3- The sample is washed and put in a tube

4- The tube is inserted into the uterus, and the sperm in the tube is placed inside the uterus.

What is the success rate of IUI?

The study shows that normally, the success rate of IUI is around 5-15% although it depends on various factors.

In Japan, IUI is between 10,000 and 30,000 yen each time.

Other medication and examination fees are not included.
